Tegla Loroupe Peace Foundation was established in 2003 by Tegla Loroupe, a 3 time world half-marathon champion, a 2 time world marathon record holder, amongst several other national and international titles.

 Sports is one of the arsenals that this event was organized for in order to achieve social interaction between the warring communities. Athletics more so has been the greatest armory in establishing cohesiveness in ensuring every person in the group gets a chance to interact with one another amicably without regarding past differences. Sports for peace is one of the major ways of building trust a foundation that needs to be nurtured slowly till it becomes strong.

PRINCE OF MONACO 
Amb.Dr.Tegla Loroupe  on 14th June 2010 held talks with H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, who visited the Tegla Loroupe Peace Academy.

During the meeting, Amb.Loroupe hailed Prince Albert II for supporting environmental and peace initiatives in Kenya particularly for supporting the Green Africa Foundation in Kitui and the Tegla Loroupe Peace Foundation, which have helped in environmental conservation and promoted peace initiatives in the country

On his part, Prince Albert II reiterated his personal commitment to working towards enhancing the existing relations between Monaco, Tegla Loroupe Peace Foundation and the Government of Kenya at large.
The Prince of Monaco expressed optimism that Monaco will exploit more areas of mutual cooperation for the benefit of their citizens of Kenya and Pastoral warring communities living in the Northern Rift of Kenya. He went ahead to say that he will support the construction of the Peace Academy and looking forward to coming back and opening up the school, which will offer educational opportunities to disadvantaged children and also act as a rescue centre for girls.

RICHARD BRANSON
April 25th 2010 Amb. Dr. Tegla Loroupe joined Sir Richard Branson, C.E.O of Virgin Unite and his 100 runners at the Virgin London Marathon. Tegla began running as a young girl, running 10km barefoot to and from school every day as early as age seven. Wow!

The run was meant to raise funds for Virgin Unite’s charitable partners that are improving the lives of vulnerable young people in the UK as well as her own non-profit organization,  Tegla Loroupe Peace Foundation, which uses the power of sport to create peace in troubled regions across the world .
Amb. Dr. Tegla has dedicated herself to running marathons to raise awareness and funds for numerous charitable causes.

In 2006 she was named a UN Ambassador of Spirit by Kofi Annan and the following year was made the Ambassador of Sport and Peace for Darfur. In the same year Tegla travelled with George Clooney and Don Cheadle to Beijing, Cairo and New York on a diplomatic mission to bring an end to violence in Darfur. Barak Obama called Tegla his role model on a recent trip to Kenya.
