The Annual Tegla Loroupe Peace Race Sudan has just come out of the longest civil war in Africa with several millions of people having lost their lives as a result and millions more displaced. Currently, there is still war in the Darfur region of Western Sudan. On 9th January 2005, there was the historic signing of the Collective Peace Agreement (CPA) where the late Dr. John Garang De Mabior and President Omar Al Bashir agreed to end the civil war.
The objective of the Inaugural Tegla Loroupe Peace race, Southern Sudan is therefore to build bridges between the North and South Sudan as well as provide a forum for the needs assessment to form the focus of the reconstruction of infrastructure and reintegration of the millions of people displaced.
The race will bring together communities from the North and South Sudan, Kenya and Uganda. It will also bring together the international communities to assess the impact of the civil war. The Foundation is working closely with partners in Sudan together with the Government especially in the South. The dates will still be communicated soon since consultations among the Partners are still ongoing.
